UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS

Southwest Program Goals:

Project Bike Tech™ launched four bicycle technician–training classrooms for some of America’s neediest kids in the Four Corners area in fall 2021. Utilizing grants from the Catena Foundation, Outride Foundation, Manaus Family Foundation, and Project Bike Tech™   the Bike Tech in Schools program was implemented at Piedra Vista High School, Farmington, NM, Rehoboth Christian School, Gallup, NM, Bridges High School, Carbondale, CO, and Southwest Open School, Cortez, CO. The purpose was to develop and grow a combined partnership effort to bring new bicycling resources to tribal and economically disadvantaged youth in Indigenous communities. Specifically, the goal is to graduate 20 students per class (80 in total) annually, starting in June 2022, with a longer-term target of 320 students in four years. For fall 2022, PBT and funding partners hope to fund an additional 4 to 5 high schools in both Arizona and New Mexico and 5-6 in fall 2023.
